SCRABBLE ~ Laura Doss

My husband’s grandma’s favorite game is Scrabble! Everytime we visited her we had to play her in a game of Scrabble. She was on her game when playing Scrabble. Grandma had her handy dictionary to challenge your words! When playing Scrabble we carefully, plot out the word that will give us the most points. We want our Scrabble word to have the biggest impact on the game.

Scrabble is a game of words! According to Google, men use about 2,000 words a day, and women use about 5,000! I think it’s because women are more expressive. If you ask a man what kind of truck he drives, he will simply say that he drives a white Ford F150. If you ask a woman what she drives she will tell you that she drives a white Honda Odyssey with leather seats and it has a DVD player!

I am a teacher so I imagine that my word count is high. One word can have several meanings AND be used a different parts of speech. Guess what subject I teach! Words are how we communicate. Imagine ordering fried chicken and a glass of milk from the restaurant by using gestures! We would look pretty entertaining.

God communicates to us through His Word..the Bible. Imagine not having the precious Words of God. We talk to God using WORDS…Prayer.

Proverbs 18:21a states, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue;”. Every moment of our life we are equipped with the power to “make or break” someone. As kids we would repeat the little saying “Sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never harm me.” That’s not always true. Our words can cause a lot of harm. We can either encourage someone or discourage them: all through the power of our words. You know that one lady at church that always fishing for a complement? Go ahead and give it to her. You never know what is really going on in her life. Sometimes people with the biggest smiles are carrying the biggest burdens. You ever walk away from someone and you think to yourself that they were just a breath of fresh air just because of the words they spoke? I would rather someone walk away from me feeling encouraged than feeling discouraged. I do talk a lot so I am on constant guard of what words come out of my mouth. lol. For 30 years, I have said, ‘Good morning,” all day long. It catches people off guard and usually brings a smile to their face. My goal is to brighten someone’s day with my words.

When someone does speak “death” (Pro. 18:2a) to you, pray and make every effort to not let it harm you. Some people are just not conscious of their words.

Psalms 19:14, “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” So often what is in our heart ends up coming out of our mouth. Keep guard of your heart so that whatever comes out of your mouth is acceptable to God.

Psalms 141:3, “Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.”
