JESUS.... OUR GIFT - Julie Tarr

IT’S CHRISTMAS!—the lights, the cookies, the tree, the get-togethers, the songs, and of course—the gifts!    Did you ever give or receive one of those gifts that were several things all in one?  Perhaps you did today.  Maybe it was a pocket knife of some sort that also was a screwdriver, nail file, and scissors.  If you are a golfer, maybe it was one of those multi-tools with a cleat tightener, stroke counter, brush, and club groove cleaner.  Remember the commercials for a kitchen gadget that “dices and slices and makes julienne fries!” with the “But wait! There’s more!”?  Nowadays there’s the cell phone.  It’s not only a phone, but also a calculator, flashlight, alarm clock, timer, stopwatch, radio, address book, and more.   Well today is the perfect day to consider The Best Gift Ever—literally The All We’ll Ever Need-In-One Gift—JESUS!

John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

II Corinthians 9:15, “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.”

The Strong’s Concordance defines the Greek word for “unspeakable” as “not expounded in full that is indescribable”.  There is no way for us to fully describe all we receive when we receive Jesus!  Here are just some of the things the Bible says that He is.

*He is The Word.  John 1:1-5
*He is The Bread of Life.  John 6:48-51
*He is The Light of the World.  John 8:12
*He is The Door.  John 10:7-9
*He is The Resurrection.  John 11:25-26
*He is The Way, The Truth, The Life.  John 14:6

The Bible tells us in John 4:7-14, that Jesus can give us living water.  There is a book entitled You’re Not Sick, You’re Thirsty! By F. Batmanghelidj M.D.  It talks about the need our bodies have for water.  In a video this doctor said, “The body does not manufacture water from any other source.”  We must receive water.  It’s the same with Jesus—we need Him for forgiveness of sin, for eternal life, for victory over death and hell… We can’t manufacture those things ourselves.  In fact in John 15:5, Jesus says, “…for without me ye can do nothing.”   We must receive Him.  When we do, we get everything that comes along with Him.  The Bible tells us that He is Saviour, Redeemer, Friend, Father, Shepherd, Comforter, Refuge, Strength, Healer, Guide, Shelter…  “But wait! There’s More!”—and as Christians, we will get to spend eternity finding out all that we have in Jesus—our Gift.

Friend, if you have never received Jesus Christ as your Saviour, what a perfect day to do so!

John 1:12, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”

Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord
shall be saved.”

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

And may we remember, like the song says,
“…And when the lights come down the moments disappear
But He Who gives us everything will still be here….”
