Do You Have a Song? - Stephanie Tucker

I don’t know about you, but I think music is one of the most absolute blessings the Lord has given us to enjoy! I love music!

My dad is a whistler. There isn’t a day that goes by that you will hear a tune or two while he works. He always seems to have a song in his heart. When my husband and I first started in the ministry, the pastor that we worked under was always humming a song. We often joked, because, even while eating at the table, if he was enjoying his meal, he hummed while he ate!  🥰😂 Again, he always had a song in his heart.  I have a best friend that constantly wakes up with a song in her heart. Even before she asks the Lord for it, He has already given it to her! 🤪 She has a song in her heart!!!

How about us? Do find ourselves with a song in our hearts? There are so many verses in Scripture that mention the words, song, sing, and singing.

“Song” is mentioned 74 times.

“Sing” is mentioned 102 times.

“Singing” is mentioned 25 times.

Not to mention the countless times that praise is mentioned. 216 according to Blue Letter Bible. 🤪

The Bible tells us in Luke 19:40 that if we don’t praise the Lord, the rocks will cry out!!!  “Whether men praise Christ or no he will, and shall, and must be praised. “And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.”

The Lord deserves our praise. We were made to praise the Lord!

Music has a powerful effect on a person. We won’t go into the right kind and wrong kind of music. I’m sure you all understand the difference between the two. 🤪

My question is, do you have a song?

I love Psalm 40. One of my favorite verses in that psalm is verse 3.

“And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. “

The moment we are saved, the Lord gives us a song! Verse 3 says many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord! What a wonderful way to share Jesus! It’s hard to have a scowl on our face when we have a song in our heart. It’s hard to be grumpy with our children or grandchildren when we have a song in our heart. It’s hard to be impatient while waiting in the long lines at the grocery store if we have a song in our heart. You get what I’m saying!? God changes our demeanor! But the choice really is ours. How do we use our song? Do we cut it off or ignore it based on how we are feeling that day? Ladies, you know as well as I, that those feelings can change by the second! Happiness is temporary. The joy of the Lord is eternal!

Ask God to give you a song every morning when you wake up that you can hum throughout the day and be encouraged.  Then, you will be the one to encourage someone else.

When I’m discouraged, I know that I can pray, read my Bible, find good music to listen to, to encourage my heart. Often times I go throughout the day, singing that song, not even realizing that the Lord had kept it in my heart.

Friends, let’s ask the Lord to help us be a Psalm 40:3 Christian.

Let’s have a new song in our heart and praise to God so that many will see it, and trust in the Lord!!!

Ask the Lord to give you a song!
