Serving the Lord with Gladness ~ Naomi Hallett

Have you ever found yourself arriving at church earlier than most other people, or even staying quite late?

Maybe tidying up little things, or cleaning up your classroom?

Perhaps you practice songs for special music, or maybe you are the treasurer at your church and you are doing financial work.

The Bible talks about serving the Lord with gladness.

Psalm 100:2 “Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.”

We can serve the Lord with gladness knowing we are doing His will for our lives.

Some people have said to me over the years “Oh you’re a pastor’s wife, that’s why you do what you do”

And that isn’t the reason at all, the church is filled with only one pastor’s wife, but, many other ladies, we are all called to serve the Lord whether we are a pastor’s wife, deacon’s wife, Sunday School teacher, or whatever position you can think of.

Joshua 24:15 …”as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

The Bible also tells in Galations 6:9 “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

1 Corinthians 15:58 “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

I have found that during these times of serving the Lord, they can be the greatest times to get to know your fellow ladies in your church, whether it is cleaning up

after a special meal at church, or setting up for a baby shower, or so many ways I wouldn’t even be able to mention all of them.

There are so many different ways to serve the Lord, and it can be a real blessing and encouragement to others, and to yourself, to really take the time and get to know one another while you are serving the Lord together. You can share blessings, and prayer requests with each other, while you work in the service of the Lord.

So maybe you can’t play the most beautiful piano arrangement for the offertory, or have a great singing voice for specials, but there is something you can do.

Ask the Lord to open up the door of serving at your church, maybe you love to bake and you could provide breakfast weekly for your Sunday school class, or grab a towel and start drying dishes after a church dinner, the Lord wants to use YOU!

And by being willing to be used, you can witness to those around you, and be a blessing to other ladies, and even serve the Lord alongside the other ladies in your church.

I have gotten to know so many of our ladies so well just by doing dishes with them at church, something so simple, and with not much talent needed.

So be not weary in well doing, and serve the Lord with gladness, because God Can Use You!
