Humility ~ Reese Fowler
Hello everyone!
Today I want to talk to you about the word Humility. It’s really not a subject- word that you hear too many preachers speaking on but Humility is essential in every Christian’s life!
Let’s first define Humility. Humility is not self serving. It is an outward-focused attitude that seeks the benefit of others and does not require recognition. It just so happens that my life’s verse is “Look not every man on his own things but every man also on the things of others”. Philippians 2:4 A perfect verse about humility!
If you have been a Christian and served the lord for a long time then you have probably been asked to help out in a ministry in your church. Maybe you have been asked to help in the Baby Nursery, be a Sunday Greeter, or help with The Big Day! The list is endless.
When I was 14 yrs old I began serving the Lord in our Bus Ministry. At the age of 17 yrs I became a Bus Captain. Our church was having a Big Down on the Farm Day! We would see souls saved & baptized. My Youth Pastor was in charge of this day. There would be games, food, & rides. He had a clipboard with a list of everything that would go on that day. He asked me what I wanted to sign up for?
I told him, anything he needed was ok with me, just remember, I’m a Bus Captain and will have riders to care for.
The Big Day came and it was hot outside. We had over 800 in church that morning and I had 128 riders on my bus. Sunday morning service was over and we would all enjoy being together having fun and helping out. We arrived at the farm and all my riders went running off everywhere. (Guess I would forget caring for my riders. Ha!) My Youth Pastor welcomed me at my bus door and told me what my job would be. He pointed over to the tent where there were 8 ponies walking around in a circle with dozens of kids lined up for a ride. I walked over to the tent and was handed a bucket and a shovel. My job on the Big Day with my new yellow
dress and white sandals on would be scooping up pony poop for 2 hours. I never complained, and I happily did it. I’m telling you those ponies could poop!
Looking back, right from the get go, this was clear to me that God was teaching me humility! We have examples all through the Bible about being humble and showing humility. Jesus washing His disciple’s dirty feet, Ruth gleaning barley and wheat in the fields of Boaz, Mary, the mother of Jesus, accepting her role of carrying the Christ Child.
Did you know that God will reward us for our Humility?
“By Humility and the fear of the Lord are riches (spiritual and physical), and honour (before God and men), and life (long and blessed).” Proverbs 22:4
And did you know that we are suppose to wear humility?
“and be clothed with humility (adopting the mind of Christ)” I Peter 5:5b
I hope you learned something new from this lesson. You are loved.
Choose happy!
